At a recent Collaboratory Advisory Board meeting several faculty members outlined their research projects as part of the Collaboratory’s Emerging Contaminants Initiative.
At a recent legislative oversight committee meeting, leadership of the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory provided an update on the organization’s work and briefed the committee on the ongoing research underway across the state.
The North Carolina Policy Collaboratory has awarded $430,000 in grants for three research projects to address emerging contaminants in North Carolina, including GenX, a potentially toxic industrial compound that has been detected in the Cape Fear River.
In 2017 the Collaboratory funded faculty, staff, and students at Carolina and NC State to work with six communities in eastern North Carolina to assist with Hurricane Matthew Recovery efforts. That work continues in 2018 with the research team identifying needs and providing solutions to these towns.
