In 2017 the Collaboratory funded faculty, staff, and students at Carolina and NC State to work with six communities in eastern North Carolina to assist with Hurricane Matthew Recovery efforts. That work continues in 2018 with the research team identifying needs and providing solutions to these towns.

The Collaboratory is playing an important role in leading research projects that address the most critical environmental and natural resource issues in the state.

The UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees was briefed in a September 28 presentation on the Collaboratory’s role in connecting environmental research at the state’s universities to policy-makers at the state and local levels.

In the 2016 State Budget, the North Carolina General Assembly established the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory (the “Collaboratory”) to utilize and disseminate the environmental research expertise of the University of North Carolina for practical use by state and local government.

Consistent with its mission to utilize and disseminate the environmental research expertise of the University of North Carolina for practical use by state and local government the NC Policy Collaboratory has announced a set of funded projects for the 2017-18 academic year.
