On January 10, 2019, the NC Policy Collaboratory presented at the General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Committee on Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources.

The North Carolina Policy Collaboratory funded researchers at North Carolina State University to conduct a year-long study on the future of energy storage in North Carolina.

In the wake of the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Florence in eastern North Carolina in September, the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory has provided $125,000 in funding for a multi-faceted project focused on water sampling but also including utilization of a drone for three-dimensional mapping of flooded areas.

Following Hurricane Matthew the NC Policy Collaboratory funded researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill to examine floodplain buyout programs and identify ways to improve the process for local governments and residents.

The Collaboratory is in the early stages of a project to conduct water and air sampling for chemical compounds throughout North Carolina. 

The North Carolina Policy Collaboratory received a new $5,013,000 million appropriation from the N.C. General Assembly as part of the State budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year to conduct baseline water quality testing for a set of chemicals classified as Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) that include GenX.

The NC Policy Collaboratory is funding the LEAF Fellowship from the Environmental Finance Center to support research in everything from information science to city planning to environmental science.

At a recent Collaboratory Advisory Board meeting several faculty members outlined their research projects as part of the Collaboratory’s Emerging Contaminants Initiative.

At a recent legislative oversight committee meeting, leadership of the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory provided an update on the organization’s work and briefed the committee on the ongoing research underway across the state.
